Yorkshire Grit for recycling.co.uk at The Tour of Britain
13.09.07: recycling.co.uk's youngsters battled through today's tough Yorkshire stage which included the arduous Cow and Calf Climb, 23-miles before the finish in Bradford, which could have ultimately decided the race as far as overall honours go.
Spaniard Adrian Palomares Vilaplana (Fuerteventura-Canarias) attacked together with David Blanco (Duja Tavira) at the foot of the climb and only Tom Stubbe (Chocolade Jacques-Topsport Vlaanderen) could follow with Palomares winning the stage and taking the yellow jersey to-boot.
The trio were part of a group of initially 26 riders who escaped at the 70km mark. Bizarrely the race had to be neutralised during its 25km journey through North Yorkshire with the organisers' official statement that the local Council had failed to issue a document in time that gave the police permission for rolling road closures. The race resumed with the break being given a 29-second advantage again and this rose to 57 seconds by the finish with recycling.co.uk's Ryan Bonsor and 19-year-old Tom Diggle finishing safely in the main peloton.
Yesterday's hero Rob Partridge came in just under 4 minutes down in 63rd place together with team mate Simon Holt just ahead in 60th place out of the 92 riders remaining.
Tomorrow's penultimate stage takes the riders on a 105.8-mile journey from Liverpool to the South Lakeland town of Kendal.
