23.04.07: In a really tough hilly stage on Sunday the race ‘turned on it’s head’. The Sparkasse team (who Mark Cavendish rode for before turning pro with T Mobile) lost the yellow jersey on this stage but only to another of their team. This shows their strength in depth.

John Herety the team manager was too ill to even get in the team car. After being up all night with sickness and ‘the runs’, even Imodium didn’t do the trick, to allow him to leave the hotel.

The remaining riders from the team from Britain knew they were in for a tough day. This proved to be the case. Chris Newton & Graham Briggs started this very tough stage with a view to getting the miles in and recuperating. During the race they found themselves in a large group which was later pulled out thereby ending their race. Ryan despite his injuries was the only finisher from the recycling.co.uk team. All in all it was a very interesting experience for the youngsters in the team. I know they have learned a lot over the last few days.

After an eventful week the team returned to lick their wounds and seek medical assistance. John and Tom to visit their GP’s. Adam Bonser a visit to the hospital for an X-ray on his wrist and Simon for some patching up.

Ryan for some more ice treatment on his badly bruised hip. Bike racing - fantastic isn’t it!!!
